Vol. 22 No. 2 (2025): Jurnal ISIP: Jurnal Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik
The 12th edition of Theories of Human Communication (Littlejohn, Foss, and Oetzel, 2021) adds a chapter on Beyond Communication to its chapter on communication elements. This chapter focuses on human-machine communication, including communicative Artificial Intelligence (AI). The phenomenon of AI in communication is currently popular and widely discussed in discussion forums, scientific articles, and books. This edition of the ISIP Journal participates in this discussion by promising two articles on AI in communication activities. One article discusses how AI supports editorial work processes, and the other discusses communication between smartwatches and their users. Both articles identify AI as an actor, meanwhile its role and position are discussed in the two articles. The other communication article, a semiotic study of a web series about firefighters, reveals that behind the flames lies the construction of the firefighting profession for the benefit of the web series industry. The theoretical discussion of communication models is discussed in the article on preserving local cultural values, which reveals how the integration of transmission and ritual communication models is used as a strategy. The election issues also continue to receive attention, presenting survey results on the influence of social media on online political participation. This article on international relations focuses on the shift in US President Trump's policy towards Biden's handling of Chinese competition, providing insights into how to formulate policies in the face of today's growing global rivalry. Please read on, and we invite you to write an article on related issues that have not yet been discussed.
